No one is interested in the media
stored in your Samsung smartphone
A few
days back, I read this article stating that Samsung is secretly keeping a
track/transferring your pictures (or media) from your smartphone via a “chip”
that resides in your battery. Well, in case you believed it after reading such
an article, it is my strong advice that the next time you buy a phone, either look
at the features with a good eye or don’t read things as such.
I have a
Samsung Galaxy S4. And about a year ago, my brother and I were getting some
hands on the NFC feature of our Androids. We were a little surprised to know
that the NFC controller was embedded with the battery in my cell, and so we
tried a few attempts to get them connected and transfer some data. Disappointed
by the results. There was not a single successful attempt which could possibly
lead us to a happy face (This is how rare, and poor the NFC yet is.).
It clearly says "Near Field Communication" on the battery |
The “spy”
in your Samsung’s battery is nothing but a NFC circuit. NFC stands for Near Field Communication. Again, NEAR
FIELD. This NFC feature of your smartphone allows it to create a radio
communication with another device when the devices are brought into contact
with each other or under a distance of approximately 10cm or less.
And that is the bus. |
Fool
assumption #1. Samsung is stealing my
data because I did not know about NFC.
I believe
that you do not live in a Samsung office? I mean, even the person living in the
same room as yours cannot even connect with your cell unless they have their
phone within 10cm of your own phone. Transferring the media present on your
phone is a thing of words itself.
Fool
assumption #2. Samsung has interest in
my media
NO! NO
ONE HAS! And you don’t need to worry unless you are involved in some criminal.
I hope you don’t click your pictures while you snort that bitch up, do you?
Fool
assumption #3. Wait! I didn’t know about
this chip, this HAS to be a secret plan by Samsung, I must aware everyone.
Yes!
Because I am stupid, everyone else must be too!
Fool
assumption #4. SHIT! I can’t do anything
about it
Settings>
Wireless and Networks> NFC (tick or UN-tick as desired)> SAVE BATTERY!
No!
Samsung is not stealing any of your data, they already have a lot to worry
about their marketing and launches. You are responsible is your data is getting
stolen. And you are responsible if you can’t monitor the activity on your own
phone. The transfer rate via NFC is about 110 kbit/s to
430 kbit/s. This
means, theoretically, 1 MB in approx. 30 seconds.
Don’t worry,
it’s just a useful but used-less feature. Like the human brain.
